Quick answer: Lyca Mobile is worth it if you want maximum data and international minutes for minimum money — and you can live with slow support if something breaks. Pricing: genuinely cheap — if you watch the revert date

Lyca’s headline prices are real, but nearly every plan is advertised at an intro price that later reverts to the standard rate. Here’s the 24-month SIM-only line-up as it stood on 12 July 2026:

All of these include unlimited UK minutes and texts plus 100 international minutes (Unlimited Plus gets unlimited international minutes), and Lyca advertises no mid-contract price rises on them. Prefer less commitment? 12-month plans run from £6 (10GB) to £27 (Unlimited Plus), 1-month rolling plans from £6 (6GB) to £30, and PAYG 30-day bundles start at £5 for 5GB — with shorter intro discounts, typically half price for the first month. There’s no credit check on PAYG.

The catch: prices revert

The pattern to internalise: your bill roughly doubles when the intro window closes. £6 for 100GB becomes £12 from month seven. That’s not a scam — it’s printed on the plan card — but the volume of Trustpilot complaints about “unexpected charges” suggests plenty of people never clock the end date. Note it the day you sign up.

How the referral deal changes the maths

Coverage and speeds: EE does the heavy lifting

Lyca has run on EE since June 2023, through a wholesale agreement with BT — a genuine upgrade from its old O2 hosting, and a detail plenty of older reviews still get wrong. Lyca’s own site coyly says “our network partner”, but BT’s announcement names it. In practice: if a spot gets EE signal, it gets Lyca signal. Lyca’s homepage claims “reliable coverage across 99% of UK population, with 68% 5G coverage” — those are Lyca’s figures rather than independent measurements, but they’re consistent with EE’s footprint. On speeds, we won’t invent test numbers: as an EE-hosted MVNO, Lyca should deliver typical EE performance — generally strong in towns and cities, more variable in rural areas — and the sensible move is to check EE’s coverage map for your postcode before committing.

One dated-but-relevant note: Lyca’s 3G was switched off in early 2024 in line with EE’s timetable, so calls now ride on 4G Calling (enabled since spring 2024) with 2G remaining as a fallback for basic calls and texts.

Features: 5G, eSIM and (finally) Wi-Fi Calling

For years the knock on Lyca was missing basics. As of mid-2026, that list has largely been cleared:

Wi-Fi Calling deserves the emphasis. It was a long-standing gap that made Lyca hard to recommend to anyone with weak indoor signal, and its arrival in May 2026 removed the last big feature objection — any review still marking Lyca down for lacking it is stale.

The standout: international calls and EU roaming

This is where Lyca stops being “a cheap SIM” and becomes “the right tool”. Most plans include 100 international minutes to a published list of 49 destinations — including India, the USA, Canada, Australia, China, Brazil and most of Europe — at no extra cost, even on the £6 tiers. Unlimited Plus advertises unlimited international minutes, though its destination list is less clearly published, so confirm your specific country before relying on it.

EU roaming is included as standard on every current plan: 30 countries (the EU plus Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein) with no daily fee — unlike VOXI, which charges from £2.60 a day for a roaming pass. Fair-use data caps scale with your plan: 2.5GB on the smallest, 12GB on mid-tier plans, 30GB on Unlimited and 35GB on Unlimited Plus — the most generous headline cap among the big budget MVNOs (giffgaff allows 5GB, SMARTY 12GB, Lebara 30GB; checked 12 July 2026).

The gap to know about: non-EU roaming isn’t included by default — the USA, Canada, Australia, India and similar are chargeable zones. A handful of PAYG bundles are the exception, packaging India and/or China data roaming (the 75GB Super Extra at £15 and 120GB Mega Plus at £20, for example).

The bad bits, honestly

Now the part most affiliate reviews mumble through. On Trustpilot, Lyca Mobile scores 2.8 out of 5 — rated “Average” — from 27,933 reviews, and is ranked #98 of 98 in Trustpilot’s telecoms category (checked 12 July 2026). Last place. There’s no honest way to spin that.

The distribution is strikingly polarised: 54% of reviewers give 5 stars, 36% give 1 star, and only around one in ten sits anywhere in between. The pattern behind it is clear from the reviews themselves — people who never need support are happy with the price; people who hit a problem describe a slog. The recurring complaint themes are unresponsive customer service, unexpected charges (often those intro-price reverts) and difficulty reaching a human. In fairness, Lyca replies to 99% of negative reviews, typically within 24 hours — though replying isn’t the same as resolving.

The support channels explain a lot. Phone support (dial 322 free from a Lyca SIM, or 020 7132 0322 from any other phone) runs 7am–11pm Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays.
